STIGMA

Sexually Transmissible Infections in Gay Men Action Group (STIGMA) is a public health partnership formed in 2000 to provide leadership and strategic direction to reduce and prevent sexually transmissible infections (STIs) among gay and other homosexually active men, including HIV positive men in the Sydney metropolitan area.

Gay and other homosexually active men are identified as a priority population group for STIs and HIV, and GPs have a vital role to play in looking after their health. 45% of Australians diagnosed with an STI or blood borne virus receive treatment through general practice compared to only 8% treated through publicly funded sexual health services. STIGMA is here to support GPs and practice nurses in meeting gay and homosexually active men health needs.
